The number of in-patient discharges and deaths due to the malignant neoplasm of breast, commonly known as breast cancer, continued to rise gradually in recent years. In 2009, 17 278 in-patient discharges and deaths were related to breast cancer, accounting for 12.1% of hospitalization due to all types of cancers.

The number of deaths and death rate due to breast cancer generally increased with age between 1981 and 2009. Breast cancer was rare in male. In 2009, 555 persons died from breast cancer, accounting for 4.3% of all cancer deaths. The death rate for female was 15 per 100 000 population.

The age-standardized death rates due to breast cancer for both sexes remained stable between 1981 and 2009. The age-standardized death rates of female were higher than those of male.

In 2009, the female age-specific death rate due to breast cancer generally increased with age. There was no male breast cancer in the year.
