The number of in-patient discharges and deaths due to the malignant neoplasm of prostate, commonly known as prostate cancer, continued to rise gradually in recent years. In 2009, 4 500 in-patient discharges and deaths were related to prostate cancer, accounting for 3.2% of hospitalization due to all types of cancers.

Prostate cancer was the fifth leading cause of cancer death in male in 2009. An increasing trend was observed in both number of deaths and death rate of this disease. In 2009, 306 persons died from prostate cancer, accounting for 2.4% of all cancer deaths. The death rate for male was 9.3 per 100 000 male population.

In the years between 1979 and 2009, there was an increasing trend in age-standardized death rate due to prostate cancer.

In 2009, the age-specific death rates due to prostate cancer increased markedly after age 65.
