Age Structure

Hong Kong population had been ageing for the past 20 years. The proportion of the population aged under 15 decreased gradually due to the sustained reduction in fertility rate in recent years. On the contrary, the proportions of persons aged 35-64 and 65 & above increased from 29.6% and 5.2% in 1974 to 47.0% and 12.9% in 2010 respectively, because of the influx of young entrants from the Mainland during the 1960-70's.
