Stomach Cancer

In 2016, 5,711 inpatient discharges and deaths were related to the malignant neoplasm of stomach, commonly known as stomach cancer, which accounted for 2.7% of hospitalization due to all types of cancers.

Stomach cancer was the fifth leading cause of cancer death in Hong Kong in 2016. In 2016, 710 persons died from stomach cancer, accounting for 5.0% of all cancer deaths. The crude death rates for male and female were 12.7 and 7.1 per 100,000 population of respective sex.

The age-standardized death rate due to stomach cancer generally decreased between 1981 and 2016. The age-standardized death rates of male were higher than those of female.

In 2016, the age-specific death rates due to stomach cancer for both sexes increased steeply in older age. The age-specific death rates of male were generally higher than those of female.
