In 2017, 25,861 inpatient discharges and deaths were related to cerebrovascular diseases, accounting for 1.2% of all inpatient discharges and deaths.

Cerebrovascular diseases was the fourth leading cause of death in 2017. In 2017, the number of deaths were 3,124, accounting for 6.8% of all registered deaths. The crude death rates for male and female were 45.6 and 39.5 per 100,000 population of respective sex.

The age-standardized death rate due to cerebrovascular diseases has dropped by more than half over the past two decades from around 40 to around 20 per 100,000 standard population.

In 2017, the age-specific death rates due to cerebrovascular diseases increased markedly after age 69. Compared to females, males had higher death rates in all age groups.
